Teapot Testing Product Privacy Policy

W.L. Technologies LLC and subsidiaries ("Teapot Testing", "we", "our", or "us") collected the following articles to describe our privacy practices. We value transparency and seek to actively maintain our users' ("your") good faith in the quality and security of our products. Should you find the following policy at all unclear we hope that you will contact us at: support@teapottesting.com for further clarification and better inform our users regarding the information collected by our application, how it is utilized, and the steps we take to protect such information.

Teapot Testing is designed specifically for educational purposes and operates in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). By using the Teapot Testing application, you consent to the data practices described in this document.

Note that the Privacy Policy is subject to revision effective upon posting and that continued use of the Teapot Testing application is considered an acknowledgement to these revisions to the Terms of Use (which includes this Privacy Policy) and an acceptance of the noted changes.

Introduction

Teapot Testing, a software service owned and operated by W.L Technologies LLC, is an educational web platform designed specifically as a technological asset for teachers. In pursuit of this, the Teapot Testing actively strives for and defines itself by these core Privacy Principles:

  1. Clarity: We strive to ensure that individual users and local educational agency users will fully understand our data collection practices and choices.
  2. Simplicity: We seek to collect as little data as possible from users and allow them to provide necessary information at their own discretion.
  3. Integrity: We will actively pursue a trustworthy relationship with our clients and that their data is kept complete, accurate, and secure while in our hands.
  4. Protection: We recognize that student, teacher, and user data is highly sensitive and will make appropriate technical and security precautions in accordance with our clients' standards (or to the best of our ability).
  5. Prevention: We will actively uphold practices and procedures that limit dangerous access to sensitive information and defend against unlawful misconduct internally and externally.

Collection of Information

Personal Information

Teapot Testing collects limited personally identifiable information (PII) which when combined with other fields or alone have the potential to identify a user, teacher, or student. These fields include but are not limited to first name, last name, email address, and phone numbers. While some amount of PII is required to effectively utilize Teapot Testing, additional PII provided to the application are left up to the users' discretion and needs.

Usage Information

We collect information about how you access and interact with the Teapot Testing application such as device type, IP address, operating system, browser type, activity on website, device id, dates and times, and other essential system activity. We may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect this information.

Information from Third-Parties and Other Sources

You may provide Teapot Testing with a Third Party's personal information so long as it is in accordance with our "education-first" approach and is related to an assessment or other classroom activity. We collect and protect this information alongside any other PII that is provided to us. Note that by providing Teapot Testing with this information you are assumed to have obtained any required consent, provided proper notice to the third-party, and complied entirely with any and all data protection laws which that party may be subject to beforehand.

Teapot Testing does not share, sell, nor lease any of the above or collected information to third parties.

Use of Information

Teapot Testing uses information collected strictly for the benefit of the user who provided the information, allowing for the following:

  • Personalizing your use of the Service and its experience
  • Providing you the Service
  • Communicating with you about your account and troubleshooting our Service
  • Understanding and improving the Service for current and future users of Teapot Testing

We may also use the non-personal information (such as analytics, feedback, device information) for internal product development and research, improving the marketing for Teapot Testing, and demonstrating the quantitative effectiveness of our Service.

Disclosure of Information

Teapot Testing does not collect personally identifiable information for its own purposes, and we take great care to protect the information entrusted to us. This means we will never sell or share personal information of students, teachers, and users with third parties for marketing purposes and will not sell student data under any circumstances. Our platform was designed to allow educators and districts to enter and manage information directly and in keeping with this aim, you are only authorizing us to share your information in the following ways:

  • With a third-party, at your or a customer's request (such as Authentication Services)
  • With our vendors, consultants, or other service providers who help our organization to provide this service
  • With your school, if you are using Teapot Testing services for school purposes
  • Changes due to business transfers (such as mergers and acquisitions)
  • For compliance purposes that are deemed necessary according to the law or to protect the security and safety of our users or Service.

We are allowed to disclose un-identifiable information that does not reasonably identify with an individual and does not contain PII.

Retention of Personal Information

We will retain your personal data only for as long as is reasonably necessary to provide our services to you or as required by law, contractual commitment, or should you require our backup data retention services. Upon receiving a written request from the you, we will either return or delete your personally identifiable information that is reasonably possible and under our direct control from our database and certify to the best of our knowledge that your request was fulfilled. Such requests will be completed with proper notice; however, they may not abridge reasonable retention periods for the data which are determined according to the following factors:

  • Whether the data is needed to maintain an existing/active account
  • Whether the data is needed to support another educational purpose or account
  • Whether a contractual requirement is in place to retain the data
  • Should we have a legitimate business or obligation to maintain or document illegal activities
  • Whether the data is required for resolving issues related to payments, subscriptions, etc.

Protection of Your Information

Teapot Testing is commended to securing your personal information and data to the best of our ability and knowledge. Please be aware that no security measure is impervious, and no method of data transmission can be assured against interception or bad agents. As a user, you are equally important to protecting your own data which requires that you keep your own password confidential and undisclosed to any other persons. Some of the ways in which we protect your personal information include:

  • Encrypting your personal information at rest using industry standard (AES-256).
  • Google Cloud Platform security measures and analytics which identify bad actors and suspicious activity
  • Role-based access controls which ensure that only authorized personnel can access data read and write privileges inside the Teapot Testing application.
  • Transport Layer Security (TLS) for traffic between our servers and your devices.

Your Rights

Schools, parents, and guardians may request access, correction, or deletion of student information consistent with FERPA and COPPA requirements.
